Nursery Graduation Fun

Can't believe my oldest graduated from nursery and is moving on to Sunbeams...
Boy does time sure fly by...

This past Sunday we had a little "graduation" thing for the nursery kids that are moving on to Sunbeams. Nothing elaborate, we just had some little graduation-themed treats, and I also made some paper graduation caps, and at the end of nursery we gave them their graduation certificate for keepsakes.

For the treats, I looked at some ideas on the internet and kind of modified them based on what I had in my pantry.
I used rolos as the base of the "caps", then coated saltine crackers with melted chocolate for the top of the caps.
I cut little strips of airhead candy for the tassel and used mini M&Ms on top of the saltine crackers.
Everything was attached together with melting chocolate.

For the graduation caps i cut out strips of black paper the size of the head circumference and attached it to a square piece of black paper. I used red, yellow, and blue (colors of primary) for the tassel.

It sure was fun making these graduation treats and props :)

Let the Saints be Diligent in Building the Temple

"Therefore let the Saints be diligent in building the Temple, and all houses which they have been, or shall hereafter be, commanded of God to build; and wait their time with patience in all meekness, faith, perseverance unto the end." (Joseph Smith)

Nursery Lesson about My Heavenly Father Loves Me

A few weeks ago I taught Lesson 7 in our nursery about the creation. As part of the lesson, the manual suggested using the song "My Heavenly Father Loves Me" from the LDS Children Song Book.

I was so excited to use the My Heavenly Father Loves Me LDS Quiet Book pattern for this lesson. This LDS Quiet Book illustrated many phrases from the song visually, to help teach these important gospel points to the kids regarding all the beautiful things in our earth that Heavenly Father created for us.

My boys and I arrived a little early to nursery to test out the quiet book page :)
I absolutely love how our LDS Quiet Book Patterns can be used for play time, singing time, FHE, quiet time, and also nursery.

"The Prophet Said to Plant a Garden" LDS Quiet Book Pattern is Listed

So excited to finally have our newest LDS Quiet Book Pattern posted and ready to go :)

Several of the activities in this page were designed to go along with words/phrases in the LDS Children song book #237 (The Prophet Said to Plant a Garden), such as “...rich brown soil, and rain and sunshine too.”, “plant the seed just right” (planting the seed into the soil), “good things will grow” (pulling the vegetables up from the soil), “too feed our family” (harvesting the vegetables and placing them in the weaved basket).

I designed this page as a way to get children engaged and enthusiastic about learning the song and principles behind the song in a fun way, and my boys sure had fun harvesting the vegetables to feed our family :) :) :)

Quiet Book Pattern - LDS Quiet Book Patterns - Jesus in Gethsemane, On the Cross, In the Tomb, and Resurrected

I've been working on this LDS Quiet Book Pattern for a while, and so excited to finally have it ready for listing.

This quiet book page features events of Jesus in Gethsemane, on the cross, in the tomb, and resurrected. My boys tested this page out at Church a few weeks ago and they had a blast folding Jesus' arms for the prayer, and practicing their snap button skills.

I love how I can teach them the stories of Jesus in a fun, visual, and hands on way.
Can't wait to use it for our FHE lesson tonight :)

You can find this LDS quiet book pattern and all my other patterns in our LDS Quiet Book Patterns shop.

LDS Quiet Book Page Testers in Action

Yesterday at church the boys had fun testing out one of my recently completed LDS Quiet Book pages.

It was sure nice to have a little quiet activity they could do at Church rather than running up and down the halls like they wanted to do before I pulled out this page.

Jesus Walks on Water

I absolutely love the story of Jesus walking on water and the lesson of faith being taught in that lesson. As such, I decided to make an LDS quiet book pattern using that story as a way to visually illustrate what is being taught through the story.

This is one of the simpler patterns I designed, compared to my other ones, but it clearly portrays the events of Jesus walking on water and Peter starting to fall into the water. My boys absolutely love this, and it has been a great conversation starter for us to teach them the principles of faith.

Homemade Music / Noisemaker Kit

My kids love music. Whether it is singing it, playing it , or dancing to it, they love it all. They particularly enjoy pulling out my pots and pans and chopsticks and making music with them. So one day I thought of making a little music kit that we could easily pull out and use anytime.

I wanted to keep it simple by using stuff that I already had laying around the house, but at the same time still make it fun. Here's what I came up with:

- Egg shakers, M&M tub shaker, vitamin bottle shaker, milk jug shaker
- Egg shaker maracas
- Ribbon spool twist drum
- Baby snack tub drum with pompom drum sticks
- Baby food jar lid cymbals
- Baby wipe guitar
- Aluminum tray guitar
- Toilet paper tube microphone
- Bell bracelet / anklet

I happened to already have all the stuff lying around the house, including empty Easter eggs from this past Easter, but if you don't have any, the great news is that you can buy plastic Easter eggs online all year round.

I even found an empty cheese ball container to store all the little instruments in our music kit. Gotta love it when you can repurpose things around the house and use it for something else :)

My kids absolutely love these, and they are always so excited when I pull them out.
This will also be so perfect for FHE, nursery/primary lessons or singing time.

LDS Quiet Book Patterns - Pioneer Children Sang as They Walked

Pioneer Day is just around the corner and I was super excited to create an LDS quiet book pattern with a pioneer theme to help my kids learn a little bit about the church history.

As I was brainstorming what to put on the page, I thought of the song Pioneer Children Sang as they Walked from the LDS Children's song book page #214. I knew that the page had to have a handcart, "walking" children, and something to show that "they washed at streams" and "camped". At this point I got really excited about all these ideas and started creating the page in no time.

What I was most excited about was the thought of using this as an activity for my kids while we sing the song. Not only would this be a fun quiet time activity for the kids, but this would also be great for FHE, nursery lesson, or even singing time in primary.

Here's how the final pages turned out.

Click here to purchase the authentic pattern that I created for this fun-filled page.
So many activities are highlighted in this one pattern, including, velcro activities, pulling the handcart, finger puppets, camping, and cooking. It is definitely worth the price of the pattern.

Help Build the Provo City Center Temple

We've lived in Provo for a few years now, and like many other Provo residents, the Provo Tabernacle held a special place in our hearts. We've been to stake conferences and concerts there over the years. Of course the news that the tabernacle was burned down was surprising for us as well.

So, when the announcement was made to turn it into a temple, we, like many others, were so excited. And since I've been on a quiet book making roll, I knew that I wanted to make one about the new temple.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/295228845/lds-quiet-book-patterns-help-build-the?ref=shop_home_active_2

The concept I had was to "build" the quiet book temple just like the church was actually building the temple in person.
It is a pretty simple page compared to many of my other quiet book pages, but my boys absolutely LOVED it. My oldest even started figuring out which puzzle piece goes where, which I thought was super exciting. For my 1 year old it is like a never ending fun-filled page of putting the pieces on and off (and into the mouth), repeated over and over....hahaha.
